ADA has valuable knowledge accumulated from our vast amount of experience in the area of aquarium layout. For example, let's talk about ADA 's approach toward the fundamental functions and reliability of the products. Nature Aquarium stresses the importance of maintaining the same aquascape for a long period of time. Here, the filter systems must be stable and powerful. During the design phase, we first took a look at the very basic functions required for filter systems. It was a time when canister filter systems were unpopular among hobbyists; the problem was in cleaning the filtering media. Several manufacturers started promoting a type of filter system with easily removable basket-like containers which held filtering media. It was, in a sense, a trend of the time. People were looking for anything smaller, lighter and more convenient. It is the principle of the manufacturers to supply the products based on the customers' needs, indeed. Especially, in the area of common necessities like electric appliances, convenience should be given the highest priority over anything else.
On the other hand, we are creating products for living creatures – water plants, tropical fish and so on. We came to the conclusion that we should give our first priority to the very basic purpose of a filtering system; we concentrated on improving the filtering capability of the filter system. ADA looked at the strength of the pump, not in terms of the maximum flowing rate of no-load, but the power of the pump head. A stable filtration is necessary for maintaining a beautiful aquascape. It the system's flow rate decreases, it will cause the degradation of the water condition. When the power of the pump head is high enough, with a good absorbing ability, the system is still capable of passing water through the system effectively even with clotted filtration media.
It would avoid the worst scenario, the sudden drop of the water flow. We paid careful attention especially on the ES-600 series, which was developed specifically for the aquarium tanks sized 60cm – 90cm in length. This is the type of tank the beginners of aquascaping first try. They are usually not good at following a periodic regular maintenance of filtration media. Thus, we employed a special impeller and a durable alumina ceramics shaft to increase the power of the pump head. Next, we had a closer look at the canister where the filtration media was kept for processing the biological filtration. What's important here was to find a way of maximizing the ability of microorganisms inside the filter media. Our solution was to set a sufficient amount of filtration media inside the canister and pass the right amount of water through it evenly. Considering the hydrodynamics of the filter system, we employed a cylindrical form for the canister. Its structure was designed in a simple form to handle a large amount of filtration media with no removable containers inside. The canister is made of stainless steel creating a robust canister filter system. A problem with plastic filter systems of this type was a wear and tear of the product after a certain period of use: damage on the pipe elbow, the deterioration and breakage of the system body etc.
To provide a stable filtration, the system also needs to have a capability to avoid such issues. Moreover, ADA paid attention to the buckle parts which fix the top board mounted with the filter pump on top of the canister. The large buckle holds the canister so tight; this type of buckle is also used on the housing of underwater cameras which require secure water-tightness. Plastic does not give you this kind of security.
It is our goal to develop the fundamental functions of the system further because filtration systems play the most important part in the aquarium. The quality of ADA 's filtration products, including Super Jet Filter series, is all proved by our hands-on experiences in aquascaping.
